Air Filter

Featured Replies

This has probably been covered over and over but maybe some fresh opinions can be added

Firstly what filter is everyone running on their vRS?

Ive had mine for just over a week now and already made a purchase on some H&R springs and the filter will be my next change!

Im looking at either one of the following replacement filters: K&N, pipercross or BMC can anyone suggest the best one?

Another filter that comes into mind is the Volkswagen Racing Pannel filter anyone got any opinions on this one also?

As far as I know, the only filter to have given proven gains is the itg maxogen kit.

I just used to run a pipercross element in mine :)

VWR Intake, sounds the dongs dangles, without exhaust, sports cat, remap etc, not going to see an benefit though, but as I say, sounds great :)

I have looked at the itg maxogen kit but sadly do not want to go down this route, want to keep the engine bay as standard looking as possible.

Do you mean just the pannel filter that sounds good? Or do you mean an entire new intake kit?

There is not much price difference between the K&N,BMC & pipercross but the Vwr racing filter is close to double the price, im not fussed on cost but is it worth the extra are they rated any good for a replacment element?

If you are running a standard map on your car,

a new fresh £11-£16 Air Filter does a very good job at allowing the performance that you can get from the car.

Thanks for your input, i have read in a few posts that the standard filter is what most run .Currently i am running a standard map but my future mods will be a map, but i will look into that in the coming weeks. I was looking for more grunt from the engine by changing the air filter as i know i will not gain any power from it

Panel filter is good (I've run them aswell) but the full kit is the one to go for,

.

Here's one fitted to my 2.0tdi Yeti project but gives you the idea.

Indeed that looks like a good setup

You can keep throwing money at a car especially a diesel and getting performance improvements.

With a 1.4 TSI Twincharger you can get easy and good improvements for not much money.

As well to buy right and buy once, and learn from those that wasted money on Style over function and noise rather than better performance.

Good performance from this upgrades, but in the end the engine was an oil burner sadly.

Another built for go and handling / stopping and not just show / noise.

There are plenty like these in the project threads that get more go for not much money.

Also cars that run reliably and the owners still have and drive, not sold on because they then found out they were at the risk of being left running an oil burner.

Great bit of info thank you

I agree there is plenty of mods for the 1.4 Twincharged engines. I have a few of my own that i have planned. :)

However i still have warranty on the car until 2017 so i want to be rather careful what i do until then, hence why i will remain with a element filter for now rather than the intake kits

OK.

You can lead a horse to water but you can not make them drink.

ie

Leave the car as is while under warranty, see that all is well, buy good oil, plugs and fuel & if all is well modify till your hearts delight.

??

Is your Air Filter dirty now, have you looked?

Have you removed the sock off it?

I have not yet checked the air filter as of yet i have had the car for about 2 weeks now. I will take a look this afternoon to see the condition, what do you mean removed the sock? Does the filter have a cover over it that should be removed or can be removed?

Look and see.

Maybe by good luck you have a good performance fllter in there, or maybe a bad one strangling the engine.

Maybe the car was serviced and a new OEM filter is in there and it has a cover (sock) and you can remove this.

A golden rule before modifying is have the standard car as good as you can,

then get it on the Dyno and see where you are starting from.

Have fun.

A new air filter for under £16 can often do wonders to a car / Twincharger,

Good plugs fitted and Super Unleaded and the warranty is not invalidated.

I would save your money for a full CAI like the ITG Maxogen. I had one on my old car, couldn't recommend it enough!

You get mixed results from aftermarket panel filters, for a twin charged engine like the 1.4 tsi, you want to ensure that the most air possible is getting into your engine... and it's clean air at that!

I've ran a standard filter then moved onto the forge one (pointless) then got a itg maxogen but didn't like the way it routed so then standard airbox with a vwr replacement filter and now a vwr induction kit which is the best one out there

  • 3 months later...

Where are peeps ordering there Induction Kits from ?

Itg Maxogen has had good reviews I'm really after some extra noise if it smoothed out performance a bonus

I've managed to get myself a Polo R set up so ill see what that does with the exhaust I have....

I'm still a bit dubious about doing too much but the oil hasn't moved in 3000 miles plus I've had it and it does get a good kicking every now and then... fingers crossed!

What is a Polo R set up?

What's shown on the Yeti further up the thread

This one..
