Options (Front camera & DSG paddles)

Featured Replies

I tend to assess and adapt as the road and surroundings change. When situation calls for it, I do actually use two hands on the wheel. :D

I was thinking about this today whilst driving home though. There can't be that many situations where you'd want or need to turn quickly to the right (into oncoming traffic!)? :s

If something in front of you causes you to turn suddenly, you have two options, left or right. On motorway you can turn right, even sometimes when in third lane and the central reservation has gravel before the barrier. You could be on dual carriageway in left lane. You could be on single carriageway with no oncoming traffic and worse danger to the left, such as an embankment. I have friends who

go 70 on motorway and will have hand on gear lever, just in case they need to change gear! I'm sure I don't do everything the Highway Code says I should do after driving for 30+ years, but two hands on a steering wheel is definitely something I do always.

I wouldn't like to do a sharp right turn at 70+ mph though. On the flip-side though, when I'm on the motorway cruising in 6th, I typically will have both hands on the wheel, towards the bottom, 4 & 7 o'clock, roughly.

I'm ultra-cautious though, so I can't really envision being in any hairy situations at high speed. I mean, I don't even turn left at a roundabout very often when someone's coming round it on the inside and there's two lanes at the exit I want. Just in case they're a dumb-ass and are aiming to cut across into the left exit-lane. :D

Bit weird maybe but I find I change up with the paddle and down with the stick

Of the three options the camera gives you I find I use the TSR the most! The Lane assist spends most of its time turned off as I find it more of a hindrance. It is not up to the level of accuracy and usefulness as say the ACC (esp with the DSG) and the HBA blinds a few too many people than I would like.
