egr help

Featured Replies

right looking for a bit of advice with egr blanking,

this concerns my mk5 golf 2.0 tdi bkd

who is a major pain in the ass from the 1st day I bought it

right onto my issue I need help with

at the weekend I started looking for what I thought was a exhaust leak under the car,as very strong smell of fumes and poor mileage

never found any areas on the exhaust from turbo back,

so started investigating in engine bay,and found a leak on the silver corrugated pipe from the egr to the exhaust manifold, I could feel  it blowing and soot deposits on my hand feeling around that area

so erg cooler off to resolve,

now what had happened I presume is someone prior to me owning the car had had this off before,  as one of the allen studs holding it too the bottom of the cooler was snapped and remained in the cooler,so in vice and removed the offending snapped bolt

so while it was off I made a blanking plate in my mates garage with 1/8 plate steel, using the gasket as a template and fitted on the exhaust manifold

refitted cooler ect

now I have sent my cars map to someone to check if the egr was mapped out and he assured me it was

but today I got a emmissions workshop light, and scanning with vcds showed as egr insufficient flow, I havent plugged any vacuum pipes though, but I would have thought if its mapped out I wouldn't get eml or emmissions workshop message as ecu wouldn't see egr and everthing could be left in situ

or am I wrong, and should I be plugging any pipes ???

thanks to anyone who can help
