288mm to 312mm brake upgrade... any videos?

Okay, so I think I've pretty much got my head around this conversion and it looks pretty easy, but as I'm trying to explain it to my local mechanic can anyone give a link to what's what and a conversion actually being done at all so I can show him as opposed to telling him to avoid me potentially getting it wrong in explanation and looking/sounding a bit of a tool. :) Cheers

 

Also, while I'm here, I know it's MKII vRS/Mk5 golf territory to do this, but will the 2014 Leon FR184/MkIII vRS carriers fit exactly the same or are they different like trying to fit MkI octy items... it can't be done??

I put 312mm front brakes from a mk6 GTI on my prefl Scout and the only changes were the discs and caliper carries, calipers were actually identical apart from colour.

Yeah, that's what I've read and been told, it's only the carriers, just want a video to show my mechanic. Picture paints a thousand words, and him not being a Skoda specialist, it's just me telling a seasoned pro, "yeah, you do it like this!".

Undo 2x bolts #3.

Remove the spring #4 and the caliper #1 and hang it out of the way. *There is no need to disconnect the brake hose*

Remove the brake pads #14. These can be reused if they are still good.
 
Remove the 2x  bolts #12 that hold the carrier #2 to the hub upright.
 
Remove the carrier #2 and throw it in the scrap bin
 
Remove the screw #8
 
Remove the 288mm disc rotor #9 and throw it in the scrap bin
 
Fit the 312mm rotor
 
Fit screw #8
 
Fit the 312mm carrier using the 2x #12 bolts
 
Fit the brake pads #14
 
Fit the caliper #1
 
At this point it's not a bad idea to fit a new slider bolts #3 & guides #15 as the rubber guides go oval after about 5 years and cause uneven pad wear.
 
Job done

Okay, might sound obvious, especially to those who have done this already... but can someone explain how you can get away with not changing the calipers as well as the carriers and account for a wider disc? Is it that the carrier (part 2 in the diagram) is horizontally 'wider' as it sits on the car (the distance between the #12 bolt holes and the furthest edge), so the existing caliper just sits that cm or so further away from the hub to account for the change from 144mm to 156mm radius change?? And if so, Is the pad difference that they're slightly larger/wider due to the extra distance from the hub but they retain the same 'footprint' which is why they sit in the existing calpiers okay?

 

Without seeing it, it's a bit hard to get it in my head how it works?!

The leg of the carrier is longer, so the disc pad sits further out.  The larger rotor provides a bigger heatsink (brakes just convert energy to heat) and the pad being further out gives a bit more leverage.

This isn't some amazing brake improvement. You are just converting to vRS brakes and giving yourself a little more headroom and a slightly better braking feel
