Rusty door bottoms ....

Featured Replies

Hi folk,

I had my car valeted yesterday and the guy pointed out to me that the bottom of my front passenger door was rusting and had been repaired or painted over before along with the rear door although there's no rust on it....... The doors haven't been resprayed just a thin line of paint run along the very bottom of the lip and inside edge .... Is this a common problem on the Octavia, both doors on the driver's side are fine and not been touched...

It's booked into my local paint guy to be sorted tomorrow, he's going to do both doors on the inside and outside edge and apply a wax coating on the inside as a precaution but this is the first car in over 30 year where I've had to get rust treated and repaired and I'm not a happy chappy .....

Petet

Sounds like a badly repaired damage , like Mike mine was perfect when I sold it

My NS doors and sills are spotting on the Octy too at nearly 200k.

Hi gav_is_con , it's an 07 plate with under 85,000 on the clock... It had just under 70,400 when I purchased her from Arnold Cladk last July and they'd been touched up then although I'd not noticec it.

Well a little young and low miles for any weather and motorway bashing like mine.

Once the water gets under the paint the problems occur.

Mines a 54 plate with 162,000.  The front arches are bubbling quite badly, I have the normal small bits on the boot hatch, the N/S sill is rusting and the O/S/R door has a bubble on the lower edge.  Never been damaged and I know the history of the car quite well.  I looked at Skodas warranty and I think I'm out of luck.  On their website it says 12 years from 05/2004 but the certificate that came with my car says 10 years.  Mine was first registered in september so I don't have long to sort this out if I'm lucky enough to be in the 12 year bracket.

The car came back tonight with the bottom of both doors sorted out, passenger side mirror housing repainted and several small paint chips on the bonnet and drivers A pillsr touched in and I'm pretty pleased with the result ... £200 for the lot which is the only downside to it all, more so as my insurance and MOT are due next month
