Waxing repainted panels...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'd to have the bottom of both my near side doors sorted and repainted owing to some rust starting to break through ... They where only painted there on Thursday and I'm wondering how long I need to leave them before I can consider giving them a coat of polish/wax over the new paint.

I personally would wait at least 2-3 weeks, sometimes even after 2 weeks, the person who sprayed the vehicle will normally say to you "pop back after 2 weeks & I'll give it a mop/buffing over" then after that point, you should still wait another 2 weeks minimum, then you should be able to polish/wax.

I'm just going by experience that I have been told in the past.

Thanks for the info and the video link BATVANVRS, it's just been so long since I've ever had to have a car painted that with all the changes in technology from cellulose to water based paints I'd thought maybe time scales had changed ... I'll play safe and leave it a few weeks before putting anything on it.

Yes - normally 4 weeks recommendation from most paint shops i have spoken with.

I like the advice in BatmanVRS's link though
