Gigaro wheel issue

Featured Replies

Yep it's a common problem.

Skoda uk have been absolutely useless, as have skoda in Reading. Bottom line I won't be buying another skoda which is a shame as I was looking at the new Octavia vrs as my next car.

I took mine to a local well known tyre and wheel specialist. They couldn't believe that skoda didn't want to know about the problem given that my car is only 2 years old.

I'm going to try going back to the dealership in Guildford I purchased my car from, see what they say.

Just a shame customers even have to go to these lengths to get issues rectified.

Their 'deny everything' approach to a number of issues (corroding wheels, excessive oil consumption, shoddy door carriers etc.) will hopefully eventually backfire on them.

Your second photo clearly shows a stone chip right on the edge, this will have let the water in under the lacquer causing whiteworm,

& so it can.

But then the 'white spider', is on wheels that do not have chips,

coming from the wheel centre where the wheel has started to weld its self to the steel hub. where the centre cap

also starts to fade, then there is the place up the 'spoke' of the wheel which is common.

As i have said in some of the many threads, i have replacement Dark Chrome Gigaro that have never been on a car,

only had the tyre fitted at a dealers where when having the tyre mounted there has been pressure on the Lacquer (coating),

then they were taken home and stored in a dry shed and 'white spider' is on both new wheels never fitted to a car.

Corrosion can happen to any Alloy Wheel, often can to damaged wheels,

Skoda knows the issue with the dark chrome Gigaro, Manufacturing and material issue.

But then the 'white spider', is on wheels that do not have chips,

Clearly where there are no chips then they should be covered, but not if there are chips, no different to lacquer failing and peeling on the bodywork... if it around a stone chip.

Chips & corrosion fair enough.

But Corrosion where there is no chips, ie else where on the wheel and Skoda Warranty Managers have approved dozens of replacements,

more likely 100's, i have had 6 replaced.

It is hard enough getting the point across to 'Tommy' in Dealerships, but explaining to other forum members is odd,

because they seem to use an argument not concerning the wheels involved.

ie Dark Chrome Gigaro,

You can strip and repaint and lacquer and refinish the Dark Chrome Gigaro and then have no issues.
