skoda starting problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a starting problem with my skoda octavia 1.9tdi. It always start on first go but if I turn it off it wont start again .. its turning but wont catch a start. It had service 2 weeks ago so its not fuel filter ... he change all the glow plugs and also check the battery its fine. If i run the engine for a bit to get it hot it starts fine or struggle a bit but start, it just a second cold start if I forgot something home etc... I need to leave car for about a hour to start it again. Thanks for help in advance.

First thing to do is get it scanned with vcds for fault codes and to check the pump timing. If problems are detected then fix those and test for starting issue?

Coolant temp sensor & cam sensor would be my first suspects, both of which can fail without throwing a code. So VCDS engine measuring blocks is the best way to check.

Also check that the glow plug heater circuit is working

Hi all so When I come home and tried to start it again the abs light go on while I was trying to start. I read the forum that it might be nearly dead battery ( I had the battery over 4 years now). I try to leave it on charger overnight.

The system needs the engine to spin at more than 250 rpm to start when hot but this is inhibited for a cold start. So it may be a dodgy coolant temperature sensor coupled with a battery that won't spin the engine fast enough for a second cold start, if the system thinks the water temp is high.
