Dual monitor KVM

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a decent dual monitor KVM switch (DVI/HDMI)? I have a desktop and will soon have a laptop that I want to connect via a docking station. I also have (or I will soon!) two monitors and I want to be able to share these, along with keyboard/mouse, between the desktop and the laptop.

There's this one from StarTech, which seems to fit the bill, but it gets very mixed reviews and I don't want something that's going to be flaky or in any way "hit and miss"

Anyone used something like this?

I have a Lindy one in my setup:

My laptop uses 24" monitor as monitor 1 then TV as monitor 2. The TV then has a the switch to enable other people to use and it automatically switches to their input.

You say DVI/HDMI, are you looking for either, or one that combines both??

I have never seen one that allows both DVI and HDMI connections, and the DVI versions have been very expensive compared to the HDMI versions.

Sorry, I meant as in either DVI or HDMI

OK, go for HDMI as DVI (as mentioned) are VERY expensive, and is no longer a popular input on PC screens these days - I paid £80 for the CHEAPEST DVI KVM I could find nearly 10 years ago, when the then fairly new HDMI KVM boxes started at £15.

I cannot recommend a KVM right now as the last two I had BOTH had random USB mouse issues; in the end I bought a separate (cheap)  USB switch for mouse and keyboard, and have one PC plugged in as HDMI and 2nd one as DVI (my main monitor has both ports), with its dual monitor output also feeding its own secondary PC screen, so I can keep an eye on what it is doing while using the main screen on my main PC.

Just in case anyone's interested, I ended up getting an Aten CS1642a which support dual monitors. No, it was not at all cheap, but it does exactly what I need it to and does it very well. Also, Aten provide very good support.
