Rhys's MK6 Ford Fiesta ST

Thought I'd start a thread on my ST to keep track of the car's progress.

 

Since being the owner of this car, I must say it's the most fun and involving car I've ever driven (closely followed by of course, the classic Austin Mini).

 

So here it is, my MK6 ST:

Seeing as I bought the car without any mats, I was definitely in need of some. So I got myself onto Car Mats UK and placed an order for these:

Luxury tailored car mats in black with a white surrounding edge. I also chose to add the optional extra of a PVC heel pad as it will most certainly come in handy and it doesn't look too bad either.

I've had 2 fiesta sts one was a standard performance blue and the other was an st500 with Mountune 185 and esp, the blue ones still alive the 500 is unfortunately dead!

The other day I met a friend to pick up some Climair wind deflectors and as soon as I got back I gave fitting them a go. It went surprisingly well. Took me a couple of minutes of reading through an online guide and fiddling about to realise what I actually had to do, but I got there in the end. I thought I'd do the whole 'before and after' thing, so here it is:

Gave them another polish and now have the windows left up to allow them to settle in.

Next on were some club stickers (which I also put on the other day)...

 
First of all I made sure the windows were clean:

 
I then followed the instructions given and here is the final result:

Can you let me know what you think of the Climair wind deflectors? When you've made your mind up. I've been tempted to buy some.

From the usage of them so far, I'm pretty impressed. No loud wind buffers, will certainly stop the rain getting in. Nice and sturdy. They look pretty smart too. I'd recommend them.

Ah nice one, got any threads on either of the two? Shame about the 500 though!

No worries. Yeah, definitely worth the investment. Got mine for a fiver from a friend as they were sitting gathering dust. I'd say before splashing out £30-£40 on a brand new pair, check if anyone has any going!

Received my metal 'ST' front grill badge yesterday, came with the fittings and a spare plastic badge for the rear (which I won't be fitting as my original is still in tact).

I simply bolted the metal badge onto the front lower grill with fittings supplied:

Doesn't look too bad to be honest, quite happy with it. Excuse the missing tow eye cover, we all know what they're like...

Had threads on fiestastoc and fiesta club Scotland, but doubt they'll be there now as it was 2009 I had them lol. The 500 wasn't killed by me though haha

Quick update, first of all I've moved the front 'ST' grill badge a little further down into the corner.

Secondly, a couple of goodies arrived in the post. Ordered online from DMB, was advised to allow 7-10 days for delivery and to my surprise the postman was at the door the next morning. I wish deliveries were always that quick.

That evening I decided I'd put the two interior items I ordered into place. It was honestly as simple as cleaning the areas I was going to apply the items, allowing them to dry and applying them. Looks pretty good, will definitely be ordering from DMB again.

First of all as promised, the new position of my 'ST' front grill badge:

Picked up a TRC splitter and diffuser from a friend which I'll be fitting later this month after I've painted my plastics, then shot off home to give the car a good clean inside and out:




I also fitted a small DMB decal on the rear for the fun of it:

 

Since then, I've decided I don't like the way I've positioned the 'Fiesta Sporting Trophy' vinyl so I've ordered another and will be re-positioning it shortly (I'm a bit of a perfectionist). I've also resulted in going back to having the red 'ST' on the steering wheel to match the gearknob for the moment but have kept the white vent rings as they are

On the to-do-list for this month:

• Paint plastics satin black
• Colour code fog surrounds
• Replace red 'ST' grill badge with a white one (ordered, should be here tomorrow)
• Replace tow eye cover (delivered, needs to be painted)
• Fit TRC splitter (waiting to be fit)
• Fit TRC diffuser (waiting to be fit)
• Reposition DMB 'Ford Fiesta Sporting Trophy' decal (new decal delivered)

White 'ST' grill badge has now been delivered

Last night I took some time out of my evening to get two of the jobs on the above list done. Before doing so I gave car a small rinse over as it was pretty filthy due to the rain it's seen in the past couple of days. I also found out that kitchen towels are actually pretty good for your paintwork when it comes to drying your car, or even buffing it.

 

First up was the rear 'Sporting Trophy' decal, as stated above I wasn't happy with how I'd positioned it and how it looked, so I ordered a replacement from DMB the other day to satisfy the perfectionist inside of me. I started by heating the old vinyl up and removing it, cleaning the area while doing so. I then used AG Tar and Glue remover to bring the surface back to it's normal self by getting rid of any residue and gave it a quick dry to complete the preparation. I then applied the decal as you would any and wolla, the final results:

 

 

Next up was the white 'ST' grill badge, decided I'd give a bit more colour coding a go. Removed the red 'ST' grill badge and fitted the white in exactly the same way, I have still kept the red 'ST' badge on the boot. Happy with the results, gives it a bit of a 'meaner' look:

Speaking of colour coding, I also ordered myself a couple of keyrings... My bunch of keys was getting too big to carry anywhere so I've now separated them into two bunches. This now being the set my car keys sit on:

 

 

I now finally have two neat looking sets of keys as opposed to one messy bunch.

Finally the other week got round to replacing the front tow eye cover, bought an already primer'd one and spray it FW.

 

Got to work this weekend de-striping the Fiesta; a hairdryer, a kettle, glue remover and a pair of hands are all you need. Gave it a quick wash and hoover after too. Removed the boot and bonnet stripes on the weekend and the roof and spoiler stripes yesterday evening. All residue removed from the boot and bonnet, just the roof and spoiler residue to remove now.

 

So yeah, OTT stripes off though I'll be keeping the side stripes.

 

Will get some better pictures up once the residue is gone and the paintwork is looking fresh.
