Excessive vibration?

Featured Replies

Never having had a 3 pot 1.4 TDi CR (90hp) before I don't know but this to me looks excessive.
Can anyone who also has a 3 pot tell me whether this kind of vibration is normal please. Car has don approx 6K miles

TIA.

Ohh yeah.

I had a 3 cyl 1,4 MKII tdi.

The vibrations disappeared at ( if my mem'ry serves me) about 2000 rpm and up. Above 110 kmh at least. In 5th gear.

They're a bit rough. :)

I had a three pot before and it always chatted away to itself. I may be wrong but I'm sure the fact it's a three pot it means it's off balance. So a 4 pot, 1 & 3 fire together then 2 & 4, but with a 3 pot it's always one at a time, hence the vibrations, those that does seem excessive, it may be as it's a diesel. Pop into Skoda and ask them to fire one up for you and let you have a look, as a friend reckons it is a bit excessive. Might just be the engine mounts. :)

Doesn't look too dissimilar to my old 1.2 Polo 3-pot petrol (same engine as in the Mk.1 and Mk.2 Fabias). Bit more vibration though, but that could well be due to it being a diesel not a petrol.

6's and 12's are in balance, but lesser numbers are not. Never really understood how the Volvo D5 was such a nice engine with a decidedly odd number of up and down bits.

Does the Volvo D5 lump not have balancer shaft in the oil sump, it really depends on the firing order but if there's an odd number of cylinders than there will always be an imbalance leading to more vibration.

Cant add anything of value as never owned a diesel but jesus that seems a mental amount of movement.
