Help! My "new" Octavia has a knocking sound

Featured Replies

So I finally bought an Octavia from an independent dealer and drove it home yesterday. 2 test drives prior to that I wasn't hearing any noises when driving it. On the way home however was a different story.

I hear a clunk noise if I lift off the clutch abruptly when stationary in reverse, first or second. If I lift the clutch up slowly and match the revs I don't get the noise.

I also get the noise when I'm in gear then put the clutch in and out quickly. Like doing 30 in forth.

When I got home I took it to my local mechanic (who is awesome) and had a look under the car at the dog bone(?) and the got a bar out to see if any bushes were dodgy etc. he said it would be hard to diagnose the issue and could be a case of trial and error.

Has anyone experienced this or know something that it could be? I've read that it could be the DMF or gearbox housing?

It comes with a warranty but I should be able to take it back to the trader anyway to get it sorted, or even get a refund. Waiting for him to call back at the moment.

Just took it for another drive and can't always get it to make the sounds. I kind of think it sounds like ABS trying to kick in.

Sometimes you can't tell if it's an engine mount until it falls apart when removed
