changing car mid policy

Featured Replies

I am considering changing my car to either a Mercedes CLS or E class coupe. I have 2yrs no claims, with currently 7 months of this year to add.

I asked my current insurer Adrian Flux, what the difference would be if I changed to an e class coupe, and was quoted an extra £500+ to mid jan 2017, equating to a total of £1000+ for the year!

Doing a quick compare, with the same car, I got quoted upwards of £400!

Is there any way I can change insurers mid term and still accrue this years no claims ( assuming I have none till year end)?

Also, if I did cancel, would I get a pro rata rebate?

Thanks

I would think no.

Changing car mid term is an excuse for the insurers to make a bit of profit. They charge you the admin fee and top rate on the new car.

Only thing you can really do its to investigate other insurance companies and see if it would be cheaper to cancel the current policy, pay the penalty and change supplier or just to cough up for the 6 months.

thanks, if i took out new policy, it would be £500  for 12mths, vs paying £500 + fee till mid jan 17.

I will lose this years no claims i have been told

?

Have you sat and calculated the actual value of that 1 years No Claim Bonus?

It might well be worth forgetting that and writing it off if Adrian Flux are being rip off merchants yet again.

Hopefully someone will be along from AF to explain why they so often take the Pith. Or try to.

No claims is irrelevant really. Cost of policy is what's important before they start adding money on to take it off again with a supposed "discount". Your no claims (as you can see) is not making much difference to the cost of a policy, rather the reverse, as to keep up with the no claims you're accruing is going to be more expensive.
