DAB Aerial

Featured Replies

I'm interested in changing the aerial on my Octavia 2 FL for a DAB compatable aerial, but have a couple of questions.

eg http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_DRA-6003_FM-AM_DAB_car_aerial.html

a ) Is the aerial itself any different? Can I add a DAB cable to the stock (non DAB?) aerial?

b ) Will the above simply swap over with my original aerial? Same hole etc just remove the original, bolt on the new one and feed new DAB wire through?

c ) Do I need a new AM/FM cable or can I use the standard cable already there? Is the cable at the aerial end universal or VW specific?

d ) Is the DAB cable provided compatible with the VW DAB (ie Columbus) or do I need a DAB-VW DAB converter?

Any other pitfalls I need to be aware of?

On the Columbus, the antenna is powered from the head unit and the DAB output from the head unit carries 12v to the antenna base. I would direct your questions to the site DABonwheels for their tech team to answer if you get no joy on here. If you connect a wrong antenna then you might either fry the aerial or (worse) fry the Columbus. Then again, it might just not work properly which would be a bit of a waste of money.

This looks to be an aerial for GPS, DAB and FM, with fakra connectors and comes with the fakra cables, however, the parts etc are available more cheaply separately. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Original-6R0035501D-Antenne-VW-SKODA-Radio-Telefon-GPS-/272264973545?hash=item3f6441cce9:g:z-sAAOSw8d9Uw46e

The FM should connect straight in to the existing cable?

Then I would just need to run 2x 6m Fakra Z cables for DAB and GPS? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=fakra+z+cable&_sacat=0

Does that sound about right? If it's barely more expensive, OEM is probably the way to go :)

That's the kit I pointed out to you to in my pm a few days ago.  :D

Doh! I'm sure I looked into it and decided against as it was expensive lol!

I'll have another read through PMs.:)

I have one of those OEM aerials and it was easy to fit and has worked really well.

Yes, I swapped the one on my Superb estate Mk2. GPS and phone plugged straight in, and I just added a DAB cable. I'm not using a DAB columbus but a USB DAB adaptor.
