Key has died

One of my keys has died.I changed the battery but no joy. Trip the my local dealer next....

I was told by the dealer that there are 2 batteries in the new fobs

I've just pulled my KESSY fob apart and there's only one CR2032 cell in there. Another dealer based factual boob to add to the collection  :dull:

OP: Have you checked to see if the battery contacts are clean and that there's no crud in or around the PCB?

And are you 100% sure the replacement battery has a charge in it? Button cells lie around in their packets for years and sometimes fail to work when needed. Obviously the little red LED on the fob will prove this.

It might also be worth synchronising the fob with the car. This is sometimes necessary after a battery change and should be covered in the manual. I think you press the button on the fob and manually unlock a door with the key within 60 seconds, don't quote me on that though.

Only one battery in my fob (non KESSY).  Inside key was immaculate (its not been used much in the 8 months I've had the car)

The red LED is flashing nice and bright.

When I phoned dealer he said he thought it might just need re-sychronising but did not tell me procedure.  Booked me in for a waiting appointment on Tuesday morning.  I'll have another look in the manual tonight but I don't think it said anything about re-synchronising.

Weirdly, it's not anywhere near the section for replacing the battery! It's on page 54 of the manual, which can be downladed here: http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/mini-apps/owners-manuals/pages/superb.aspx

Synchronise remote control If the buttons on the remote control key have been operated several times beyond the effective range of the system or the battery in the remote control key has been replaced and the vehicle cannot be unlocked using the remote control, the key must be synchronised.

› Press any button on the remote control key.

› Unlock the door with the key in the lock cylinder within 1 minute of pressing the button (details for manual unlock are on page 207).

If the LED is working, it either needs to be synchronised or the fob is FUBAR.

Update - re-synchronising did not work so I proceeded with dealer appointment.  This proved to be a frustrating exercise which to cut a long story short resulted in me waiting at the dealer for 2 hours drinking the free coffee, having my washer jets 'fixed' so that they are now completely useless only to be told that my key was faulty and would need to be replaced.  I now need to wait several weeks for a replacement key and a further visit to the dealer to be coded. Can't wait for that!
