Direct Line Drive-plus box

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm signed up for Direct Line's Drive-plus black box service for my 2007 (reg dec 2007) mk 2 Fabia 1.4 TDI. Has anyone used this or know if they are able to send a box that can be plugged in or if an engineer is required to hard wire one in?

I was told when the box was sent out to me that it would have to be fitted by an engineer as my car wasn't suitable for a plug in box. I've had various issues with getting it fitted (now 2 months after the policy started) as I live in the north of Scotland and they are apparently now sending me one that I will be able to plug in.

Thanks

Jamie

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry no idea, they are the people in the insurance business, so if they dont know who does..

Is it really a problem since you have insurance and Direct LIne can not get their act together.

Seems good that presently you can drive as you wish and your not monitored.

Hi and welcome.

Unfortunately I can't offer any assistance in the matter apart from maybe giving Direct Line a call.

Regards,

Dan.

I had a box when I was with the AA with my old Peugeot and that had to be hard wired by an engineer. Count yourself lucky not to have it installed and drag it out for as long as you possibly can. If you can get away with it for the whole 12 months that would be perfect because when they start monitoring you they could charge you more and mor money if you don't drive like a pensioner.

We have a drive plus box from DL. It plugs in to the diagnostic port, so why you'd need to hard wire in any modern ish car I have no idea.

However, in terms of getting it to me they were a shower. I think the wording on the policy said sent out within 4 weeks, must be fitted within 4 of receipt. I forgot how long it took to come, but it was well over that. I phoned about 4 times to chase. It finally arrived about 2 days before I reached my self imposed deadline when I was going to ring a final time to tell them I would install it when it turned up, but I wouldn't call again

Took 2min to install

Son gad black box fitted however they did take 8 months, they usually take an hour or 2 to fit and you will need to have it hardwired and possibly pay to remove or just leave it in after you are done

Most policies insist the box is returned, and if you leave there's a "removal charge".

If the box is "tampered with" (ie unplugged) your policy is voided.

Better to add an older family member as a named driver unusually instead of these box policies
