No instrument panel, Car won't start

Featured Replies

I hope someone can help.

I have a 2011 Fabia mk2 VRS. I came to the car this morning and it failed to start. The engine will turn over but will not fire. The instrument cluster has no lights on at all and the dials do not move.

I have checked the battery and tried another battery that is known to be good. I have checked all the fuses on top of the battery as well as all of the fuses inside the car.

Not too sure where to look next. Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Disconnect the battery and touch the two clamps together for 30 seconds. Then reconnect and try again.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have tried this a few times now and is still not working.

Sounds like a dash cluster failure then.

Would that stop the engine from starting? also is it a DIY fix or would it need to be coded to the vehicle? if so is that a local auto electrician job or a main dealer job?

Thanks

A cluster change has to be coded to the vehicle. Not simple and not diy.

Depends what programs your auto electrician is using i guess!

Not necessarily dealer.

Yes the immobiliser is in the dash cluster, main dealer job.

Hi Tech!e, I have often heard the advise of removing the battery terminals, usually earth so what is the benefit of removing both and touching them together for a few seconds? I would guess it is to totally ground the system, leaving no charge at all but I have never heard of it before. Is it similar in theory to grounding when working on computers, etc to have no remaining charge or static? Thanks.

I think your right.

Even with the battery earth off, some parts (copasitors?) still hold electricity for a short while so waiting a little bit and touching both together will remove all electricity.

Check that the cluster has power and ground

Correct. What is commonly called a terminal 30 reset in our circles.
