Criminal Damage to my Fabia

Featured Replies

Went away for a few days, returning on Sunday night about 5.30pm.  My car, which was parked on my drive, had been vandalised whilst we were away.  The offside doors had been scratched and what looks like spray glue was on the windows and bodywork.  I have notified the Police and taken a copy of the relevant CCTV footage for them.

The scratches will obviously need to be repaired professionally.  As for the glue, does anybody know how best I can remove it without damaging the bodywork, assuming it will come off?  I have thought about white spirit and possibly a steam cleaner.  I want to leave the damage for the minute until the Police have seen it but would like to be prepared.

You can imagine now upset and annoyed I am.  I have only had the car since the end of February and it has only 2,000 miles on the clock.  Any help appreciated on this.  Thanks.

Firstly let me say how sorry I am for you, it is unbelievable that anyone would do this to other peoples property and it really upset and annoys me, I can only imagine how upset you are, I hope they catch the B***ards.

I would first try White spirit on the glue but it may not be enough so you may have to purchase glue remover from somewhere like Homebase etc. (http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/de-solv-it-sticky-stuff-remover-liquid---250ml-106343)

I hope you get it sorted.

That's awful! Can completely understand how upset you'd be.

You could try a tar & glue remover which is specially designed for vehicles - might potentially be a safer bet than steam cleaner and white spirit. There are a few variations on the market but they do say they're designed to remove tar and glue so could be worth a shot.

Someone else may be able to add another suggestion... Hope you manage to get it looking like new again! Hope the culprits can be caught.

Sorry to hear this.

If you are having the scratches prepared professionally i would get along to some place and get a price,

and if you are going to have to claim off your insurance then get quoted on all the work.

Or get the Mobile Repairer along to check out the damage.

You might need a Loss Adjuster /Insurance Inspector to assess the damage.

As to the Superglue if that is what it is, go get some ice on a less obvious parts and see if that helps in the removal.

Best not mess with solvents of alcohols until you see if it will need more involved to remove it.

You dont want to mess up the top coat but that might already be the case.
