2.5 tdi auto gearbox oil change.

Featured Replies

Hi.

I need to change the oil of the automatic gearbox. Iv heard different storys that i need computer for it to monitor the temperature of the oil when filling it ?

Is it possible to do this work in home ? do i need special tools ? does anyone have instructions for it ? iv found lots of different videos on youtube about the job but i dont want to start anything before iim 100% sure what im doing , i have changed gearbox oils before , just not for skodas and what iv heared and read about it , it made sound more difficult.

Any advice/help is much appreciated.

I believe your gearbox is a ZF 5HP19 transmission.

And yes you do need to check the temperature but not while filling it just once it's filled then check the temperature and drain any excess off.

ohh if this is it iv overreacted i guess.

Yes it's much simpler than on a DSG.

Also worth noting is you won't drain all the fluid due to the torque converter so often people will drain it again after a few hundreds miles and fill to replace more of the fluid but the choice is yours.

okey. Thank you for all the information .

Think its good idea to perform same thing after few hundred miles since i havent heared so far, that mixing different oils is a good thing .

hi. iv realised my gearbox oilpan seems to be a bit different compared what i see on the video.

and i didnt find the filling hole on the area where they fill it up on video.

i have looked few other videos where there is also 2 hole ion bottom of the oil pan , and im pretty sure the oil is filled up from the bigger hole until it comes out?, then use all the gears for 10 secs, check the the temp , when the temp is 30-40 degress check the oil again while engine is running and gearbox on Parking, if there is oil coming out from the fill hole , let it out and if there is no oil coming out ,fill it up and secure the filling hole bolt. someone please correct if im wrong about something.

Here is the picture from my gearbox oil pan.

If you're going to work on these cars at this level, do yourself a big favour and spend 7euros or so on an hour's access to Skoda ERWIN.  In that time you can download all the factory service and repair manuals for your car.

You'll get useful things like this... :)
