what version of office do I need to buy

Featured Replies

Hope someone can help - starting work for a Japanese company next month and they've told me to go out and buy myself a laptop and software.

Earlier this evening I purchased a laptop from Amazon and now need a copy of Microsoft office to put on it. What version do I need to buy with regards to licencing ?

Any help/advice very much appreciated.

Thanks

Depends what you want to do with it but you have a choice from:

MS Office 2003 Student & teacher edition (no need to prove you fit in either category to purchase this) at about

As it's a new laptop is it possible to buy an OEM version of Standard Office 2003 ?

But I've already purchased a new laptop from Amazon - would ebuyer still sell me the software separately ?
I ordered a laptop + OEM edition of MS Office 2003 from Ebuyer, on a single order, about 16 months ago.

Something went wrong with the order and they deleted Office from the order, so I had to go in to ebuyer's system again to make a new order for the OEM version of Office after the laptop had been delivered. Their system let me do this with no problem- I asked them as a double check and they said I would be licensed OK for the OEM Office.

Getting through to ebuyer customer support was a tad challenging though.

Not exactly the same situation as yours re: licensing (I guess you'd need to check with Microsoft to be sure), but I believe the ebuyer ordering system won't stand in your way if you try to order the OEM version (at least it didn't stop me back then).

HTH

We have some students on Open Office and the only issue is setting up the options to default to the MS filetypes.

Slightly off on a tangent but the next version of ms office is due out with the next version of Windows either late this year or early next (subject to change!!!). Last I saw said that it would let you work on pdf files too.

If the Company you are going to work for are footing the bill, don't balls about. Go for the latest version of office.
