Car serviced today ...

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Well I'd the car serviced today at my local garage, they changed the oil and filter with stuff supplied by myself and charged £15 for it ... 1/2 an hour labour tops ... Car checked over and brakes etc fine but I need a front near side gater replaced so it's booked in for that tomorrow and I need a 4 wheel alignment done as my rear tyres are going on the inside edges .... I've found two places that claim to do a full 4 wheel alignment but I'm doubtful if it's a Hunter set up as they only charge £40

I replaced the pollen filter myself, it was done in Aug last year and has done about 18,000 miles.. The air filter I checked and was to me clean enough to last to next service as it was only changed after last service .. I've attached some photos of them

You know; most places including skoda dealers don't use Hunter equipment and those that do favour it because of the price and ease of use rather than accuracy.

Hi James,

I've never owned a car before where 4 wheel alignment is a requirement or it's even possible to adjust anything other than the toe in/out and just about everyone on here recomends a Hunter set up as the best option .... I found a place through the alingnmycar web site out in Clydebank ... A wee bit away admittedly but they fitted two new tyres, swapped my fronts to the rear and to different sides to even out wear .... Then when put it on the machine just about every single reading was in the red .... After a good hours work all readings are sitting in the green with the figures adjusted as closely to each other as possible ... The steering wheel is now dead ahead, before it was ever so slightly offset to the right and everything feels so much lighter on the road.

Oh it makes a world of difference. It's nice to see someone who has chosen to have it done and felt the benefit :)

Labman (I won't tell you what my Auto correct spelling came up with!) if you don't mind me asking, what did they charge?

I normally get my 4 wheel alignment carried out in March/April when I swap over from Winter to summer wheels, however, my alignment is waaay out after having one of the rear differentials replaced at a dealer.

I know that wouldn't have caused the issue, it's what they did to cause it that concerns me!

Hi Fin I was charged £60 which they claimed was a reduction from £80 .... Black Diamond Tyre Services in Clydebank

Thanks for that.

I previously used MANA Infiniti at Braehead, but they have now upped the price from a a fixed £60 to approximately £140ph (the last alignment took nearly 2 hours as the technician wasn't totally happy!).

Taggarts in Motherwell got a bit of a s#!try on when it came to swapping the wheels over (even though I had explained that when I initially phoned up!) and were talking of increasing the price from £75+vat to their hourly rate of £140.

This guy is really good and very reasonable. 2 minutes off the motorway. Got Boxster done recently after Eibach lower springs etc fitted. Cost just under £60.

That bloke in Larnert looks quite good and his prices seem reasonable too ...
