Superb dedicated wiring loom for towbar

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I had a towbar fitted to my superb and paid the garage the extra money to fit the dedicated wiring loom. I hitched the trailer up yesterday and didn't get any kind of towing light or icon on the display or the columbus, the parkimg sensors were also still on as normal.

I'm assuming this isn't right and have booked to take it back, but can someone illuminate me as to what is supposed to happen if the dedicated loom is operating correctly.

Thank yee kindly!

Copied from another post by a member that knows a thing or two about tow bars/ towing. This is how it should be if coded correctly...

Screen display modified to show trailer icon

Rear parking sensors deactivated.

Rear fog light on car deactivated.

Bulb failure system extended to trailer. (Warning, it doesn't like LED bulbs!)

Above acts as the legal requirement to have a warning if the trailer flashers don't work.

Flasher rate modified to accept greater load.

Alarm system extended to sense if trailer disconnected whilst alarm is switched on.

Stability programmes modified to notice that a trailer is plugged in.

Was it a specialist tow bar fitting place or just your local garage?

Thank you for replying. It was a towbar specialist place so a little disappointing that I'll have to go back and get them to have another look!

Perfect, thanks for that. Confirms my suspicions that it's not wired correctly.

It could be that they didn't code the car correctly/at all after fitting the wiring kit.

Most likely is it wired correctly, but not coded (in Software) correctly.

The obvious giveaway is the picture of a trailer on the columbus when you put the car in reverse.

Its worrying that a tow bar specialist did not know that they needed to code the car. Either that or they forgot which is just as bad.
