Noisy Ticking sound from New front discs - MTEC Grooved and Dimpled?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've recently upgraded my front brakes to 312mm and fitted some MTEC Grooved and Dimpled discs with new pads. My issue is they produce an annoying ticking sound over 25mph when steering and a very obvious distracting ticking when applying the brakes. Basically I can't live with this sound and would like to know where I stand with MTEC.

I have emailed them with the issue and they have requested a sound recording to confirm. My problem is recording the ticking sound over the wind noise because it is overpowering, any suggestions?

Cheers.

Jack up the wheel and spin it by hand and see if you can replicate the noise ?

I've heard that some hissing noise is normal with dimple discs when braking so I think they want a sound recording to ensure it is not other detects or issues that is causing the noise such as warp discs or a sticking caliper.

You will get extra noise on anything other than oem discs. The best upgrade is to fit oem discs with a better brake pad. Grooved and dimpled discs are not needed for road applications. I doubt mtec will refund you for the discs but it is worth a try.

I had grooved before and they created a constant wooshing noise. I think its that the pads are so close to the disks that now have an air gap rather than a flat surface.
