The small fan on my car has been making a noise for the last couple of months, it usually comes on about 30 secs afters starting the car and you can hear it turn off as you take the key out of the ignition, however occasionally it doesn't make a noise at all!

Any ideas on what this problem is?

Thanks for your reply Mike, it may well be that fan, but I would of thought that with the noise coming from under the bonnet by the little fan next to the big fan it would be that?

However it's not overheating or anything and driving fine, so it's not a major issue just something that's come up over the last couple of months.

The air con isn't working! I went to have it regassed and they said there was a leak somewhere. I didn't worry about getting it fixed as it sounded like an expensive fix!

I will see what it's like without having the blower on at all, and listen to hear if the fan comes on.

I know a friend who had something similar on his golf, it turned out to be a heater to pre heat warm air for the car in cold weather before the natural heat from the engine took its place? This was a strange foreign spec car but could be this? It was behind the glovebox?

Unplug the small fan and see if the noise stops. I've changed plenty with noisy bearings before now.
