Toureg V6 diesel

Featured Replies

I'm considering one of these once the time comes to change the superb. Live the latter but not the engine, needs more grunt and refinement to satisfy me. Anyone owned, or driven one? Pros cons?

I've driven a couple.

The first one was the older model with 6 speed gearbox and 222bhp. It was a nice drive and went well. But steering was pretty numb and the interior somehow felt dated even when pretty new.

I've also had a much longer drive of a newer generation (2011 onwards) which was the V6 TDI Blue motion with 8 speed gearbox.

Interior quality is a huge step up. Sat nav much better, big digital dash (colour screen) adaptive cruise, electric retractable towbar, electric tailgate etc etc.

The engine refinement is much better (perhaps more noise insulation too). Engine pulls very strong and is perfectly happy plodding along using light throttle but equally happy for you to floor it and makes a lovely noise.

The 8 speed box is very good! Works flawlessly with the stop/start. As soon as you start to lift your foot off the brake to set off again the engine has started and you drive off as normal.

The ride comfort is very good and body roll on normal twisty roads feels pretty minimal but obviously it's a big heavy car so don't expect to be able to chuck it round on a B road blast!

Rear leg room and comfort is also very nice. Plenty of leg room due to the up right seating position. Decent sized boot too.

I've also driven one in the snow too. Put some winter tyres on it and you're unstoppable!

If it's in your budget then go for it!

Mate has had quite a few bits of engine trouble with his, mainly around leaking coolant.

VW washed their hands of him although it was fixed eventually, sorry don't know the detail.

They do like the car and it gets good mpg considering the size of it.

Those idiots up Aberdeen way must not be putting the winter tyres on then.

Big heavy lumps that hit kerbs quite hard when they lose traction.

Damn fast away from the traffic lights and circles when doing the school run.

Look good parked in Disabled Bays or Parent Toddler bays which seem to be where they mostly get parked.

Lots of detail in this review, even if 2014 & not UK.

Maybe more relevant.

Sounds about right, it's my mate's wife that drives it mostly. He ended up getting a 330d for himself.

A Mummy was no way letting me go up the outside lane of North Anderson Drive quicker then her on the inside.

She was damn quick at each set of lights then she hit the kerb on the nearside and that was game over.

I do hope they do have stronger front suspension parts.

I used a Petrol Touareg that i borrowed to tow a transporter with a 4x4 on.

It was a very very expensive weekend, but lots of fun.

I was tempted to put the VW on the trailer and tow it though with the offroader.
