Apologies the original link didnt work!!

Seat out and dismantle the whole of the back. It is a fiddly complicated job. Plus you may have the seat airbag to contend with.

I did a how to for fixing the cable if it snaps.

On mine the cable was fine but the plastic part at the bottom has broken into pieces. I did find another identical seat (black Elegance) at a breakers but that had the same issue!! :(

Re the airbag issue, Im guessing that would be in a self contained unit inside the seat so shouldnt cause any concern especially if unplugged??

Just make sure you disconnect the battery first. IIRC the airbag wiring is a bit fiddly through the seat too, but it's a long time since I had a mkI.
