Tempted by a new toy

Fancy something a bit different to tool around in for a while. Looking at a few options on eBay and came across these:

Liking the "old school" Jag - 240 BHP and a relatively bullet proof old Ford cam chain engine:

I realise it is 13 years old, and despite the low mileage / 1 owner / full JagSH may well spring a few hidden surprises (little concerned by the corrosion noted on the most recent MOT).

I'm also liking the Merc CLS the seller has listed. Especially like the colour, although again a scary prospect, should it go wrong:

The E500 looks to be a potential future classic, but 160K miles??

Looked at quite a few of her adverts over the years. 'Pristine' and rust are not comfortable bedfellows to me, but there again, is it unrealistic to expect a rust free example?

Lots of caveats in the description, reading between the lines, but then 100% feedback score.

I'd take the Jag out of the three, but if it were me I'd keep looking.

The rear subframe corrosion warrants investigation and I think the price is alittle high for the age regardless of the low mileage, but the Jag's worth looking at for £3k.

The third link comes up as a C55, not an E500? The C is quite cramped, and I've alwys found Merc switches and buttons user un-friendly, but the CLS might be worth looking at if you're making the trip to Nottingham.

The Merc 3 litre diesel can sound like a tractor - certainly in an S Class I had the use of for a while. Might be better in the CLS.

Apologies - I'd meant to type C55, not E500.

Many thanks - I go through phases now and then when a diesel Yeti (and 1.2 Rapid) don't cut the mustard, despite being generally reliable.

Don't we all - that's why I changed my 1.4 Octy for a vRS!
