RS won't accelerate over about 100 mph

Featured Replies

So I've now had a chance to hit the roads and pass some traffic by, and in some of those situations I've gotten up to about 95-100 mph, but I've noticed that at that point the acceleration just dies off, and flooring it in 5:th gear pretty much maintains the speed.. I'm kinda wondering if this has something to do with the fact that my wheels needs balanced, because the car shakes quite a bit at those speeds, and the ASR is kicking in, lowering the speed thinking the tires is slipping? I've yet to try those speeds and beyond with the ASR disabled

Is the car shaking because of a physical vibration, or is the engine misfiring at that speed/rpm causing the impression of shaking?.

I would check the car's history to see when the fuel filter was last changed, as it may just be running lean at the top end of the rev range due to a blocked filter. And before anybody else says it "be careful of the clips" on the fuel pipes if you decide to change it.

Not. 100% sure, but it feels really really similar to what I was getting in the Opel i had before this, and that was misaligned wheels for sure.. so I'm guessing it's the wheels. I dont get the same vibration when i hit the same RPM at lower gears for instance.

BBut if i were to change the fuel filter, does this video show the right way, or is it too new a model in the video?

Don't know about Sweden, but over here wheel balancing is not that expensive to have carried out.

Provided the tyres have a serviceable lifespan still, I would have them balanced to rule them out. The tyre place can also check that the tyres are not excessively oval and running out of true at speed during the balance process. Don't forget that out of balance rear tyres can create all manner of vibrations at speed also.

Hope it helps

Thank you .. also a sort of ping to see if you feel the video's showing the right way or not? =)

What Liverpool-Lad has put up is correct procedure as you should have a 1U Octavia I believe unless Swedish spec vehicles are different.

This is the correct vid from the same source as your other vid.

I would just pay more attention to removing the pipe feed clips than the guy uses in the vid, he seems to lever them off without fully pressing the clip release button, a bit of a recipe for doom that. Use the vid for general location of stuff, and Robs thread for the detail stuff regarding the clips. They are not easy to fix if you break them.
