Autocar Through Bhutan By Yeti

Featured Replies

On the way back from London recently, on the Dubai - Brunei - leg we flew over an amazing mountainous region on the west coast of India which has me intrigued and would love to explore.

The aircraft map didn't mention major cities surprisingly, only tourist destinations (?)

Bhutan sounds like a great adventure.

Great adventure indeed but perhaps not for the $10US per day back packer!

Bhutan's electricity generation (mostly sold to India) has led to 10% of road vehicles being powered by cheap electricity but the visa/tourist fees situation makes tricky Tibet seem easier in comparison. Tourists have to book everything through a government approved travel agency list and there is a daily per head 'tourist fee' of $250US for group travel and $290$US daily for an individual.

However, the fee covers accommodation, three meals a day, local taxes and entrance fees, local car and driver and all other internal land transport.

Could be the ultimate package holiday though?
