Strange Locking Problems

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2000 'W' Octavia 1.9TDi which I bought a few months ago as a work vehicle visiting IT clients.  Despite covering a lot of tough miles on bad roads and already being up to nearly 200,000 miles it's doing great and I love it.  However, it's developed a strange set of problems with the doors/locks which I can't work out and it doesn't quite match up with anything I've read on here or through searching Google.

Basically, it has the following issues:

* Remote central locking has stopped working completely - first one key stopped working, then the other.  Both now have new batteries but neither work and reprogramming attempts have failed.  This first happened after it had been parked up for a week at an airport car park, I thought they'd broken the key but the other remote stopped working shortly afterwards as well.

* The car locks fine on the central locking using the key in the bootlid or driver's door locks, all doors lock and unlock normally.

* If I press the lock button on the driver's door whilst sat inside the car, all doors lock but the N/S passenger door instantly unlocks again and will not stay locked.

* Both door mirrors work fine

* The lights-on warning beep does not work any more, nor does the light on the dashboard.  Once in a blue moon, it will work once or twice but very, very rarely.

I have taken the driver's door panel off and checked the control unit, no signs of corrosion that I could see.  I cleaned it out with some WD40 and put it back together but no improvement.

It's not the end of the world but I'm in and out of the car all day, often with arms full of boxes of IT equipment and it would be handy to be able to lock it remotely!  Also, I keep leaving the lights on by mistake which is going to result in a flat battery one of these days if I'm not careful.

Any suggestions on what might be up?

Cheers,

Phil

Have you checked the loom and connections between front and back door pillars ? I had locking issues and I found broken wires where the loom bends back and forth and over time they carck . Worth a look .

As Lee says (despite the bold + strikethrough formatting).
