New gearbox fitted!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am the owner of a 1.2 petrol Urban.

Purchased from new and registered May 2012 with 41,000 miles on the clock.

Just had a brand new gearbox fitted as the bearings had failed on original.

Always dealer serviced and driven with care and never used to tow or been abused.

Cost was £2500,which I managed to negotiate to £1000.

I have been driving nearly forty years and never suffered such a catastrophic failure.

I spoke to Skoda Uk and they were happy with the outcome that the dealer had offered me.

Personally not impressed at all and looks like this will be my last Skoda.

Thanks for your response?

I'm sure I've read somewhere that VAG gearboxes are renown for being a bit rubbish.  I had a 'box failure on an old Polo GTi, it was fairly catastrophic and very smelly if I remember correctly!  The car was useless to me (a repair costing more than the car was worth) so I ended up selling it to a VW technician.

How did yours go?  Was it just a big bang one day or a gradual process?

That is y after 3 years or sooner i get a new one let someone else have the problems

I suffered bearing failure on a Seat Cordoba PD130 6 speed box.

Heard of this on other Skoda and VAG models too.
