How do I remove Clarion head unit ?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, got a 2000 Fabia, with a Clarion head unit. I want to take this out and put the original head unit in back in ready for my new Fabia vRS on order.

The place that fitted the stereo want

If it's similar to mine.....

Obtain Clarion removal tools from Halfords or bit of junior hacksaw blades may work. The proper tools engage on the h/u so you can pull it partway out.

- Remove the plastic trim surround of the Clarion h/u (bezel?) revealing removal slots.

- The tools insert into vertical slots, left and right.

- Pull h/u out.

Should be a doddle, the instructions above sound fine.

Then

Disconnect any wiring and adaptors used. You may find 2 extras between the HU and the cars wiring, A ISO adapter and maybe an aerial booster. Remove these. You may also need to remove the metal cage the HU was installed into. Just bend it to a strange shape and it will come out (reshape after removal) . Reconnect HU and install.

Interesting Vindaloo, I asked at the local Halfords and they said they didnt have removal tools for the Clarion as they werent a stockist for them. Do the 'generic' removal tools work ?

Cheers.

OK, sorted it !!

Snapping a hacksaw blade in two was the perfect tool for taking the clarion out. Also removed my hands free car kit at the same time.

The stock headunit sounds awful compared to the Clarion, so am really pleased I have managed to take it out rather than pay £35 for uninstalling, then another £35 to put in the new car.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Cheers.
