Thinking of fitting some gauges...

No' date=' on a diesel you don't have any hoses to T off.

So you have to either tap into one of the pipes, or use a MAP sensor spacer with a port to plug your tube into.[/quote']

How annoying. And nobody does the spacers that you know of?

I you do drill and tap, is there anywhere in particular you do it to get an accurate reading for boost and vacuum, or is it just boost?

Justin,

Do a search in Jasons threads as I posted pictures of where the boost pipe work is fitted, if you cant find it PM/e-mail me and I'll hook the pictures out for you.

This thread?

Do you get a smooth movement of the gauge needle doing it this way, or does it wobble about like the speedo needle on an old Peugeot? I remember when I first fitted the boost gauge to my old nissan I fitted it something like this, and it made the needle go apesh*t, it was almost impossible to tell what the boost reading was. That's why I eventually T'd it off the actuator.

aye thats the one. It doesn't seem to wobble, if you like I'm off all next week I'll try and get a small video clip of it in action so you can see if you think it's usefull or not before you buy anything.

Cheers

OK, to those that may have fitted this already, or anyone who might know, can you confirm what the gauge and pitch is for the oil pressure switch that is fitted as standard (with a view to fitting a T-piece for the gauge sender and the switch)?

Sorry for bumping this thread after so long but I've finally got my gauges and got around to trying to put them in.

Trouble is, the boost gauge only came with a nylon t-piece and not the theaded brass fitting you'd normally use to tap into the inlet (like I need to do here to fit the gauge).

Any ideas where I can get one, or what I could use as a substitute? I've emailed the place I bought the gauges from (RaidHP, the manufacturer) and they have thus far blanked me and not responded to a couple of different emails.

Bumpity bump bump bump

OK, longest running mod I've ever attempted but finally getting somewhere

Boost pressure gauge - got the necessary fitting to tap the inlet and suitable black silicone sugnal hose to run this gauge

Oil temp gauge - got some sump plugs drilled and tapped to accept the sender so that's all good too

Oil pressure - by far the hardest but finally getting somewhere - saw an ad in this month's PPC (great mag, if you haven't read it, get it) for a specialist supplier of remote oil pressure gauge fitting kits.

They've confirmed they have one that should fit - but what length do I want? 0.5m or 1.0m? I'm tempted to go with the longer one as it's more likely to be helpful in running the wiring, but do shorter hoses give more accurate readings, and are longer hoses more likely to get gunged up as the oil isn't actually flowing through them?

Gauges are in place now, no pics yet, bit pointless until they are wired up, but they look quite good. Not to everyone's taste I'm sure but hey, it's my car and I like 'em :D

Where did you get the bits to tap the boost pipe?

Got any part numbers?

Fraid not, remembered I'd left one of the brass fittings on my 200SX - got in touch with the guy I sold it to, and nabbed it off the old car

Apologies for bumping this thread after so long, but it's taken me all this time to get the necessary parts and get around to fitting them!

Pics attached - if anyone wants part numbers or directions, let me know

Daytime it sticks out a bit, but at night they blend nicely with the red stereo illumination and red needles on the dash dials :D
