I'm buying a new car...

Featured Replies

..a new 2.0 to be more precise.

Frankly, I'm sick of the one I have simply because I don't believe that having to open the gearbox twice since I bought it is a normal thing. Now a bearing on the 2nd gear is gone, and I have to wait for parts to arrive, and quite honestly again, even though the dealer here is great, I'm not to comfortable with them opening a gearbox...the gearbox is (I feel) one of those things that shouldn't be touched by anyone but the manufacturer...otherwise, if opened, it's like it's jinxed.

So I've already called them and asked them to get me a price on the new model, of which I will buy and trade in the old model. Apparently they now have an extended service package whereby for either 5 years or 90,000kms servicing is free of charge less battery replacement and whatever 'wearable' parts there are (obviously). New model also has different gear ratios, more lower-end torque and redlines at 6,500rpm instead of 6,250rpm like the one I currently have.

I'll be switching all the add-ons I have on my current car to the new model, including the bodykit, wheels, spacers, strut brace, filter & springs. Also whatever interior mods I've done will be switched over to the new car.

I'm a bit confused as to what colour to get now, but I'm thinking I'll stick with black. Otherwise, could be red, or blue.

I feel bad having to do this but I'm not going to keep the car over its warranty period if I know that everyonce in a while I'll have to go in because there is something newly wrong that will pop up :(

GRRRR just typed a long reply here only to lose it

WHy not get something different? I bought the same kind of car once (a 1.4 Micra after having a 1.0) and I regretted as the car was just too similar and it was more of the same. I really wished I had got something different.

I just cant understand anyone wanting the same car all over again unless driving means nothing to them. For me, life is just too damn short to keep on driving the same car all the time.

Because Paul, I know for a fact that every dealer in this country for every brand other than Skoda are unfriendly and rip off their customers on service.

With Skoda, all I'm doing is trading my car in for what it is worth now and getting a brand new car, with full warranty again, plus 5 years or 90,000kms absolutely free servicing. And they treat me very well, very friendly and always smiling. Even if I have a slightly problematic car, I know I would buy at least one more car from them purely because I can rely on the servicing and I love the car and its performance.

I was thinking about getting the Clio 182, but I've noticed the Fabia is a rare site on the roads here. I like having something not people have, and in this case, it's a Fabia 2 litre with a full kit. All I'll need to have done then is transfer everything I've done to my car into the new car. I'm going to order a black one again. Unless I order another color and get the kit painted that colour, which I don't think is worth the hassle.

I'm not sure why people are that bothered about their car being rare. I can say the 182 is common-ish around here, but then what do you expect, they are good VFM. The Fabia vRS started off quite rare, but has become much more common (even more so than the 182), but that didnt change my opinion of the car when I had it, or made me feel any better or worse about owning.

I have a simple way of looking at cars - I like to experience as many as I can within reason, because life is too short - I'd feel bad if I was on my deathbed and thought "I really wanted to try that car but wont because someone says it might be unreliable or it was too common". You gotta ask yourself why particular cars become popular? Might be because they really are good.

I think you should try a 182 anyway :D I may be biased, but I too was initially put off by some peoples comments, and even the comments of some ACTUAL OWNERS, a lot of whom seem to be a bit chavvy, and all they are interested in his the fact their car is faster than X Y or Z. I'm not like that, but nevertheless, it gives me a big grin every time I drive it, and I really dont care if a chipped diesel or whatever is faster, because I have so much fun driving it.

Go on... you know you wanna! ;)

Just got back from the dealer's...

Interior design is different now for the sports interior, no more bright center colours like the red I have, now it's blackish-greyish :D I'm thinkin' about the six CD changer to go with it too, but it's stupidly expensive.

Also those alloy wheels on the 100 Edition Fabia, the cool 5-spoke 16" is an option for it now as well, I'm considering it but I'll probably stick to the multi-spoke I have now.

I've also decided since I'm getting another one, I'll order another colour.....Dynamic Blue :D It's a sporty colour and looks good too, and will look hot with the kit and silver grille.

I did enquire on the Fabia vRS..they'll find out for me and give me a price...but at this point I don't think I'll be getting a diesel, the quality of the diesel fuel here is very poor and is much more expensive than petrol...unsurprisingly so as there is so much construction going on here everyday and there are almost as many trucks as there are cars...why not take advantage right?

So yeah...that's a little update...

Good on you Mil:thumbup:

I will be having another Octavia vRS when I change.Been very pleased with Skoda

I definitely would stick with the petrol anyway - you'll get tons of heatsoak during the warmer days & somehow I have a feeling most days are like that where you live :D :D - it works well and you're happy with it.

Nice colour and we expect pics

With all the problems you're having with your current gearbox, I'd personally have been put off replacing the car with exactly the same make and model! Still, it's not my decision, so we'll expect to see some pics of the new one when you pick it up :D

I remember that little private message discussion we had Chris :)

Funny you say that, it was the only problem I had with it that's made me decide to trade it in for a new one...besides, why not take advantage of another 3 years or 60k of free servicing right?:) In any case, they are replacing the bearings on all the gears for the car as soon as the parts come in, under warranty of course.

I've been told by the service advisor that the hearbox on the 2003 model Fabia was a bit a of a problematic one, and that the gearboxes on it from 2005 were modified units with better gear ratios and easier to repair. Apparently, once you remove the gearbox (that I have), there are certain components in it that MUST be replaced, simply because to disassemble it requires the mechanic to 'bust' out some of the parts to get through to workin' on them.

Having this problem did put me off buying another Skoda, but then again, I know that once in a while one particular car in the assembly line will have its own faults from birth. I've had just 2 problems with it in 3 years, but it's a bit worrysome as the warranty will be out in a month.

I'm hoping to get a good trade in value from Autostar. I'm extremely pleased with their service over the past three years, they've been completely helpful in any problem I've had. Inside, pretty much everything has been replaced too, under warranty. I've had both seatbelt retractors just replaced, the window button both seat cushions replaced, CD player is new, the rear seats are bloody clean as they've been used something like 10 times in the past 3 years and the body pretty much resprayed. All four doors were resprayed under warranty and I just sprayed the hood. All done at Autostar. Servicing only done there and no where else.

I'll be seeing the GM today since he's asked me to come to him personally regarding the new car. He absolutely loves what I've done to my current car, so let's see what kind of a good deal I can get. As a customer buying a second car from them, I would like to expect one :)
