56 Plate Fabia vRS - Changed EGR - lots of smoke & laggy

Featured Replies

Howdy,

Looking for some help..

My mum's 56 plate Fabia vRS's CEL came on with P0401 and so I took it apart, cleaned the ASV, EGR & the intake manifold. Reset the CEL only for it to come on again after around 30min of driving.

So despite the valve seeming move freely after cleaning, I bought an EGR from EuroCarParts and associated gaskets from Skoda. Gaskets being the 2 rubber rings and the exhaust pipe gasket.

Swapped out old for new, but since then the car is very laggy, not boosting until around 2500rpm and very smokey until boost comes in (more fuel than air?) Once boost is hit the car accelerates harder than it did before.

Also worth noting that if say in 4th @ 2000rpm WOT, the car barely accelerates. Massive cloud of smoke and takes a long time for it to start to pick up as you'd expect at around 2500rpm.

I presumed an air leak of some sort and so I took it all apart to ensure nothing was leaking from what I had fit. All looks good. Checked the exhaust pipe to see if carbon build up from a split (just in case I moved it too much during installation) and no signs of a leak.

Tried spraying various pipes I may have disturbed with WD40 to check for leaks but nothing gave away any sign of a leak.

So.. I need help. Any suggestions? I read somewhere that disconnecting the ASV's electrical connection during could have caused an issue? Nothing concrete there though...

Thanks in advance!

Try unplugging the MAF as the EGR Flow is measured by the ECU using the flow through the MAF sensor.

Are you using VCDS?

also try a vac test on the control pipe to the turbo    (for leaks and actuator movement)

Thanks, no not using VCDS although it has since gone to a specialist for checking over and they couldn't identify the issue and so have taken logs to review.

Found no leaks, no issue with the EGR opening/closing, no turbo issue, just late spool and smoke..

When I know more I'll update.

Thanks.
