2 users - 1 pc

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of installing some kind of ICE into my car. The basic requirement is:-

- 2 screens, headrest mounted.

- The ability to either have the same thing running on both screens at the same time (DVD) for example or 2 different users using 2 different programmes for example one watching a DVD and the other using Youtube or listening to music.

-The ability to have separate sound channels. Hooked up to headphones for each side that again allow for the split programmes or the same if both watching/ doing the same.

I'm thinking along the lines of 1 central PC with a internet connection. but then is it possible to do the above. I had thought of 2 different tablets mounted on the headrests but then there is no physical DVD input or ability to sync both together etc.

Any suggestions?

I would go with the tablets, the in car systems are so expensive in comparison, and far more limited in what they can do.

I have seen headrest mounts for various sized tablets, but pick tablets carefully, some have really poor battery life - advertise 5-6 hours and pack up after 2 hours.

I dont have a head rest mount, my daughter keeps herself entertained with my old Asus 8" in her lap; that lets her play games as well as watch films, and the battery still lasts over 6 hours (8-10 from new)

DVDs are bulky and fragile, just rip them to avi and use a suitable sdcard slot equipped MiFi device as a media server, tucked away in the glove box.

You can pick up a decent 7" Asus memo for under £80. There was a deal recently with them at £60 (Tesco).

Would be perfect for what you need, just need a headrest tablet holder.

This is what I have.

This is what got thrown across the house in rage, after numerous effing issues with it.

it was great for the first few months, then required a factory reset after the virtual keyboard went screwy, and then again, and again; eventually, even the factory reset wouldnt fix the issue, and it got frisbee'd.

I also got screwed by Tesco on an Acer cashback offer - they repeatedly failed to send the receipt, so I couldnt claim; then they said they would refund me the same amount - and never did; my loyalty card also got frisbee'd.
