Advice needed on turbo and group 11 log

Featured Replies

Hi all I'm after a bit advice on the new turbo I've put on my fabia. I bought the turbo from xman and it looks a well made unit. I can't fault his service at all. The turbo is a 1.9TDI PD130/PD150 stage1 hybrid. My car was standard apart from a fmic before I fitted the new turbo. No remap and the car drove really well. The original turbo started to make the usual noise so I changed this right away. The problem I'm having is this new turbo doesn't boost that well till around about 2.5k and there is a big jump in power at 3.5k. I will post a copy of the log for anyone that knows about this type of thing. Just after some advice on where I need to adjust actuator rod or stop screw

Thanks in advance

Not clear from your post but if you have fitted the Hybrid you will need a remap, running on a stock map will be far from perfect.

The first log in your link is checking the stop screw/actuator settings, the difference between the closed and open readings (mbar) should be 120-160mbar, yours is 96mbar so room for improvement there.

When I fitted my GTB turbo the original difference was 84mbar, I adjusted it to just over 160mbar and it made a huge difference to the way it comes on boost, it also got rid of the bad lag when going on the throttle.

This will need adjustment before getting it remapped.

Fabooka is the person on here that will be able to give you the best advice if he spots this post, pity he no longer does remaps!

Sorry I ment to remove that first part. This hybrid is ment to have close to stock spool. Did you have to lengthen or shorten the actuator rod on your turbo. I was trying to avoid a remap just now as I have given the car to my younger brother who has only just passed his test. If a remap is the only way to sort it out I'll get in touch with fabooka

If you put on a turbo that's anything but standard, then you'll need it remapped - otherwise the car ECU will try and compensate the boost through the N75 and at a peak of 1.8bar, you'll need to drive it carefully and avoid full throttle until it is mapped.

Other advice has already been said about stop screw and actuator rod so that also needs doing.

You'll be able to tune the car so it runs standard power, more power or if you're worried about your brother, less...

You can limit power in top revs, place on a speed limiter and other options

I had to do a combination of stop screw and actuator rod length to get it to were I wanted, I adjusted the stop screw and found after a couple of small adjustments it had no effect, it was the actuator rod length (to long) stopping the arm hitting the stop screw.

fabooka no longer does mapping so you would need to find somewhere else for a remap.

Thanks for the replies. Duck I just re-read your first reply and see you said he doesn't do them anymore. I'll get a few logs after I've made some adjustments see how it looks and drives. I'll then look into a remap

I purchased a cheap vacuum pump/gauge from ebay, this was invaluable when doing the actuator rod length adjustment.

1-2mg and the arm should start moving, 18mg and it should be on the stop screw (think vacuum was measured in mg, not got the gauge to hand to check).

When you adjust the stop screw its a simple check using the vacuum pump to see if the arm can hit the stop screw or if the actuator rod length is restricting the fully open/closed positions.
