Does my Fabia need a diesel pump?

Featured Replies

My 2002 skoda fabia 1.9 sdi is hard to startand when it does there is blue and grey smoke. When at idle it goes clear but the engine is very loud, when the car is reved it will smoke allot out of the back and feels like it skips a couple of times reving up. I have changed the fuel filter, cleaned the EGR valve and the throttle body. Any ideas?

Can you give a rough indication of mileage ?

Startup smoke could be glow plugs, but the other symptoms could be injectors or pump.

If you get it scanned on VCDS that may be able to identify a problem with the injector pump or ECU.

205000 is the mileage.

I had it scanned on vcds and there were no codes coming up for anything.

The other thing was that the 40 amp glow plug fuse strip on the battery plate was snapped, i replaced it but still the same problem.

is the replaced fuse still good I would check each plug for continuity and then work back towards the bettery

Blue smoke suggests worn bores or valve stem seals (or both) and the 200k miles supports this.

White smoke on a cold start is more suggestive of one or more failed glow plugs.

Also, the mileage suggests that the injectors may be worn; I'd seek advice from a diesel specialist like Bosch Diesel or Turner Tune (whoever's easier for you to get to) on that.
