Slight modifications and warranty = ???

 

What are the forums thoughts on this?

 

Would I get into much bother if I did one or two things, eg stage 1 and lowering springs?

 

 

Not if you intend to declare it to your insurers. Premiums may rise or they might not wish to insure you. If you don't declare the mods then you only have yourself to blame in the event of an accident, policy cancellation legal costs etc.

I declare to insurers, used to having bikes and they rarely charge extra for slight mods (hoses, cans etc) - this will be the first car that I've actually thought it's worth doing anything to. I guess car insurers are a bit different though!

 

I suppose what I really mean, is - has anyone taken their vRS back to the dealer for the service with lowering springs on etc, and the dealer's kicked off because of the aftermarket work that's been done?

I actually had the dealer source and install for me my Eibach lowering strings and they kinda accepted them as a "semi-official" springs - He was more eager to push me into Eibach than H&R (which is anyway what I wanted).

 

Springs I don't think would get you into much trouble, but a remap... I think would open an avenue for them to wiggle out of an expensive repair if the failure was engine related.

Apology for not getting the thrust of your original post. As above, if it's in warranty and the dealer can detect a remap it will have a detrimental affect upon a warranty claim. All insurers will attempt to avoid a claim if it steps 1mm outside of the policy guidelines

No worries - I thought as much. I'll just have to keep it standard for a while then!

Guess it depends on the dealer. I've got a scorpion exhaust on mine and they picked up on its first MOT, last month, that an exhaust hanger had broke and would be replaced under warranty.

I understand that if the part is to an approved spec, ie Scorpion recognised reputable company then they have to prove that that part caused the failure.

More difficult for owner to justify lowered springs causing damage to suspension as Skoda can say springs not to other parts spec. Notwithstanding that most suspension components only have a 6 month warranty anyway.

Engine mods definitely easier for Skoda to dismiss.

This is great advice - I've managed to source my own springs (Eibach), so I could have a word with the dealer and get them to fit them for me?
