Endless 1.4 Cave issues (Help please)

Featured Replies

Hi Skoda people,

I've owned my mk2 VRS for two years now, in the last 3 months I have had endless issues. The car is just about to hit 40,000 miles so it's done well.

The car itself is a 2011 model with the engine CAVE.

Initially the first issue I had was caused by a conversion plug that goes from the boost pressure sensor to the boost pipe, this had cracked causing leaks. I replaced this and the car was as good as new.

A week later, the engine light made an appearance once again. with symptoms of the car choking and juddering both in idle and driving I took the car to Skoda, after paying out £100, I was told it was the MAF, thus, I replaced this and the car worked fine for a while longer.

Now i face a new, but similar issue.

The car idles perfectly, but the moment acceleration is applied the car completely chokes to the point it nearly stalls. At higher RPM's the engine runs a bit smoother but low range I have a lot of issues with it juddering severely and starving of oxygen.

Could this be a cause of another  one of the three MAF's going faulty, a filthy EGR or anything along these lines?

I have MOT next week and in the car's current state I stand no chance at passing!

All help its greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance,

Welcome to the forum.

Have your cars MOT done by the Dealership that you paid to repair your car after diagnosing the fault.

If it can not run and not pass a MOT then they have got something wrong.  You need them to sort the work they guarantee.

Does your car now have in new spark plugs, the second replacement set, or was the Spark Plugs changed only once so far?

Are they the OEM and at the correct gap, and checked recently and at the last visit to the garage, & the Ignition Coils all OK?

This section is full of the many issues that can affect the 1.4 TSI Twincharger.

When in at the Dealership was the latest Software Update done for you?

So after the pipe replacement, has the car currently got a fresh / new air filter, a new 'Fuel Filter', correct spark plugs at the correct gap,

Super Unleaded petrol & basically as it needs to be to run well.

That does sound awfully similar to how my car ran after a valve cracked. juddering and chocking at low revs, smoother in the higher rev range. Have you warning lights on? EPC or check engine?

Hopefully yours is nothing as serious, mine was terminal and required a new block. Like Offski said first thing to do would be check and replace the plugs.

Hi,

thanks for the rapid response.

I may have to do that just to have the certainty of their services.

The sparks and a full service was done by me around 3k miles ago. Ideally I would love to do another service before the MOT but time and money is not in abundance this time of the year!

I will be taking all the sparks out this weekend and the egr to give it a full clean down. So that will help me to cut out certain factors it may be.

I do have already have the latest software which I had done just over a month ago but it has been fine between now and up until the most recent issues started.

I am getting a new MAF tonight and replacing the one I think could potentially be causing issues, if it is not that then it will be a strip down and replacement of all parts such as the ones you have stated in your comment.

I have also always run Shell super unleaded as well as tesco's 99 ron petrol as well as using oem parts.

thanks,

That does not sound ideal!

I did have an EPC light on but that was from the MAF as Skoda said, this only went off this morning funnily enough and nothing has come up since which makes me worry because that could cause issues with diagnosis.

I will hopefully get to replacing those this weekend and if not, I am sure Skoda will be able to source the issue for a small fortune!

Thanks

Just to be clear.

Were there problems before the car was Serviced & the Spark plugs changed or only after this was done? ...............

Was that the spark plugs being changed for the first time?

Not sure what you are going to be doing with a EGR.

Maybe best have the Fully Trained Technicians that you had sort your car do it properly.

???
Who put the latest software on a month ago, the same place as serviced it and replaced the Boost Sensor & also Serviced it?

The cave engine does not have a maf, it has 3 map sensors
