Stage 1 Re-map on a petrol engine.

Stage 1 Re-map on a petrol engine. (1.4 TSI)

I’m sure most of you who have gone down the re-map route will have asked the same questions as I’m about to ask at some point. Its something I’m considering having done.

There is only a stage 1 map available for my car model and I was wondering what it actually entails.

Obviously they will re-map the ecu but is that all there is to it or is there more to it than that?

If anyone could run me through what to expect on the day and the time its likely to take etc. also is there anything that I need to do to the car before I take it etc.

Be nice to hear about it from guys who have actually had it done rather than the guys who are obviously looking to sell me a product.

Look forward to reading your replies.

Thanks

Depending on what year your car is may mean the ecu is encrypted and will need removing to bench flash the map on. Most reputable tuners will do this as part of the cost of the map or for a small extra fee. The whole time will liky take about 1 to 2 hours if you go for a generic map. If you want a custom map then it will be longer as they will need your car on the rolling road.

For a stage 1 you dont need any other parts and dont be fooled into buying a replacement aftermarket filter as they dont make any gains. I used to run my stage 2+ Octy TFSi with a paper filter and it ran just fine at 270+ bhp. Just keep your car serviced regularly and dont drive hard from cold. Thats about it really.

Thanks for the reply. My car is a 20011. I have just done a service on the car which included oil, oil filter, air filter and pollen filter. Didn't change the plugs as they aren't due and everything is running as it should with no faults.

The car only has 122bhp from standard and the 163bhp that Shark are quoting seems like an impressive gain if the figures can be believed. http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/skoda/octavia/octavia-ii-fl-2009/1-4-tsi-122-bhp-13

I have seen lots of posts over the years recommending  Shark but do not know how reliable their figures are.

Also wonder weather my standard clutch and turbo will be ok for the increase. I'm not a boy racer and wont be doing any wheel spins.

Sharks figures are fairly accurate as that is who mapped my Octy at stage 2+. No two cars with the same mods will make exactly the same power but it wont be too far off the quoted figures. Id say up to 5 to 10bhp either side of the quoted figures. Your clutch will be fine but I would change your spark plugs. I changed mine every 12,000 miles. The 40,000 miles Skoda quotes are far too long for a spark plug.
