How to remove interior rear light please ?

Featured Replies

Have got LED replacements (superskoda) for interior lights. Have fitted the new interior front lights as that only required removing the cover and fitting the LED bulb units.

However the interior rear lights come as a complete replacement unit, but I cannot find the trick/knack necessary to remove the interior light fitting - any help/advice on how to do this would be gratefully received.

Just replaced mine last week ... working from the "0" end ... with flat blade screwdriver.

There is a metal carrier frame in the headlining : the plastic lamp clips into it. So - from "0" end - see that the screwdriver is going between the lamp and the metal carrier.

(Even if you make a mess and pull out the metal carrier - it is possible to re-shape the carrier and re-insert it into the head-lining. Just a bit fiddly)

So - whilst pushing towards other end, pull out the lamp assembly. Note which direction the wire is coming from too - it may be different on both sides.

Then the back cover slides pretty easily off (small screwdriver may help give enough pressure - but mostly do-able by hand.)

Switch yer bulbs.

Check they work before re-assembly - some LEDs only work one way round. And... might be kinda obvious- but (!) -  make sure the LED panel inside the festoon actually does face the lens of the lamp !!

Reassemble.

Enjoy !

Dithane: - many thanks.  I did try, earlier on, flat blade at the 0 end but had no joy - maybe I was to afraid of knackering the whole thing.  I eased out the 0 end but only maybe 3/4 mm but then couldn't get any purchase to slide the fitting sideways out of the carrier unit.

Will try again tomorrow -

Totally by the by - am intrigued by your screen name - a fungicide no less.

Hi found this pic when  I wanted to change mine to LEDs - so much better!

Good luck

I recently switched to LED's but the small metal clip in the photo below gave me horrendous problems. As Dithane says, make sure the screwdriver engages between clip and metal carrier at the end with the circle mark and the unit will pop out. I actually broke he clip in the process of removal (started at the wrong end and got wild with it) and had to order a new light unit.post-133523-0-44077600-1481025653_thumb.jpg

Thanks FabRio and BlackConcept - - will wait until I am suitably chilled out before trying again.

Just changed every interior lights to Osram premium LEDs, including boot and glove box, and it really wasn't that hard.

Front was really easy as you don't have to remove the whole unit, just pop the cover of the part where the lights are with a flat screwdriver. 1 x 41mm festoon and 2 x W5W.

Glovebox and boot light extremely easy, come off with a flat screwdriver, just be sure to open from the side where's a notch for the screwdriver. Both W5W.

Rear indoor lights were not so hard at all, just be sure to push the clip between the plastic light housing and the metal rim. The metal rim is supposed to stay attached to the roof while the light housing comes detached. 1 x 36mm festoon bulb a side.

The bulbs I used:

1 x OSRAM LED Premium Retrofit SV8.5-8 41mm, LED-C5W, Innenbeleuchtung, 6499CW-01B, Cool White, 12V PKW, Einzelblister (1 Stück) https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00NRA9EH0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_W1x.zbCWZHQ60

2 x OSRAM LED Premium Retrofit SV8.5-8 36mm, LED-C5W, Innenbeleuchtung, 6498CW-01B, Cool White, 12V PKW, Einzelblister (1 Stück) https://www.amazon.de/dp/B007OYVKUO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Wcy.zbGV36ZAA

2 x OSRAM LED Premium Retrofit W2.1x9.5d, LED-W5W, Innenbeleuchtung, 2850CW-02B, Cool White, 12V PKW, Doppelblister (2 Stück) https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0088XET0S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tdy.zbYGGWZ59

Color temperature of all the bulbs is exactly the same. That was the main reason of not going with cheap Chinese ebay bulbs.

Is there some technique required with these. I cannot get mine out and I have prised as much as I dare

Yes, the technique is described in the previous messages in this thread.

Once you push the right part inside the housing, the whole light becomes loose and doesn't need force to be pulled out, but finding the right place to push with the flat screwdriver was the trickiest part.

Well I already read through the thread and studied the pic or I would not have asked the question, so where is the right place to push?
