Swap 225/35R19 to 235's?

Featured Replies

I have seen a few posts on here about swapping out the old 225 width tyres for a 235 but cant work out if this would adversely effect anything else?

I am currently looking at replacing my 2 front tyres on my VRS Octy with Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's in the next week or so.

225/35 - 78.75mm wall height.

235/35 - 82.25mm

235/30 - 70.50mm

So the difference between 225/35 and 235/35 is less than the tread depth. Given that point I can't see why not except that this is one occasion when I would move the rears forward and fit the new tyres to the rear.

is the only advantage to this the additional 10mm contact patch or is there something I'm missing?

I presumed this was a case of being able to get the wider tyres cheaper or the narrower not being available in a specific make and model. The contact patch will actually change shape so you don't get any extra total grip (more lateral but less longitudinal).
