Dog guard tools

Featured Replies

We've just replaced our Audi A3 with a 2009 model Yeti diesel. I thought I'd be clever and order a dog guard online to save the expense of buying from the dealer. The guard arrived yesterday but apparently needs a special tool to fit it! (Part no MTX 9-139/A). I've searched posts on this forum and have found a thread from a few years ago and read something about making your own tool. I've also read elsewhere that a pair of rivet pliers can be used instead. Has anyone tried either of these methods?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you need a Rivnut Setting Tool. There are plenty of YouTube videos showing how to make your own.

Not worth buying anything special unless you are going to be fitting lots of them

was actually going to suggest similar, i used a high tensile nut and bolt on 8mm rivnuts on my kit car!

As a part of the deal with my new yeti, the dealers were to fit the mounting rivnuts and transplant the dog guard across.

Apparently this was too hard so they supplied and fitted a complete dog guard in my new yeti - makes me wonder if a fitting kit alone is available?

(Apart from nipping down the local motor factors and buying 4 rivnuts)

Would that not have left 2 holes in the roof of the old car, it's not like moving a spare wheel over.

It would have left two mounting threaded holes which could have been blanked off. The new owner will get a good deal

What about the trim pieces?
