2.0 TDI Idle Speed

Featured Replies

Fast idle on cold start - AC off

Just over 900 rpm

Recon I can identify the active regen fast idle which is faster so don't think it's that - In any case active regen was completed about 14 miles ago.

Never noticed old 1.9 do this - Is it normal?

I am going from memory here so open to correction but the idle speed on my old 1.9pd (no dpf) was 900 rpm, cold or hot and the indicated idle consumption was 0.5L/hour.

If I had the air conditioner in operation then I think it increased to around 950 rpm but there was obviously more load on the engine as the idle consumption increased to anywhere from 0.8L/hour to 1.2L/hour (the latter usually when just switched on and the cooling requirement highest)

I think there was a special 'blueline' low consumption version of the engine sold here in an Audi which ticked over at 750 rpm.

I have no experience with a DPF fitted engine I'm afraid.

It sounds very much like the cold start feature used to warm the engine up as fast as possible.

You can't compare the likes of the old 1.9 TDI (PD?) to a new gen 3 CR engine. Other than their basic operating principles they are miles apart.

Thought it might be something like that thanks.
