Fabia vrs mk 1 misfire.

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody.

New member looking for a little help please. My grand old girl (04 reg,147,000 miles) has developed a misfire(?) between 3,500 and 4000rpm.

Now the puzzling thing is this only occurs in 3rd and 4th gears or it did. Driving home this evening she started to cough in 2nd gear too. I've had her on the diagnostic computer twice now and everything reads ok. I also had the ECU reset but to no avail. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest a fix as the mechanics out here don't seem to have the foggiest. Thanks in advance.

Was it VCDS they used?

As this usaully shows up misfires and records which cylinder it is.

Ever had a new cam in it?

How much pressure is in the cooling system after a good thrash for a few miles?

The ECU is not self learning,so whoever told you they had reset it was telling porkies!

Sounds like a worn cam

Thanks for your reply. Can't answer any of your questions with the exception of the cam replacement, which is,no it's the original. At a loss as to how to rectify this as there are no obvious reasons for it happening. Can cam wear be seen by the naked eye or should I take it as a given that it's likely to be the culprit?

Removing the cam cover and inspecting the cam is the only way to check it.

It is pretty common for these engines to wear out the cams, especially if the correct oil has not been used.

Is the car well serviced?

When did it have a new fuel filter etc?
