Roomster Scout 2007 quadlock

Featured Replies

Messing about with the Amundsen unit in my 2007 Roomster Scout today when I noticed 3 wired feeding the quadlock that have been intentionally isolated and taped to the loom - have a look at the green, black and yellow wires in the photos.

Anyone able to say what these wires for, and whether they may assist in getting navigation in the maxidot?

Canbus system T 1.6 on the Fabia/Roomster, not T 2.0 as in Octavia/Golf etc, so integration between RNS/Maxidot via VCDS alone is not possible as the RNS unit can't be accessed.

The previous thread? I gave Connects2 the pinouts and the 5J canbus module details and asked for a loom, but they didn't understand the question (!) ...  so I gave up on them.

Are there any cut wires in the pins in the quadlock?

Which pins on the blue connector do the black/gray/brown wires go to?

Assuming it's for an aux input somewhere, the green/yellow might be connected to the black for extra shielding.

Nope

There is an aux input socket by the handbrake

Then I think you've identified them as the shield/ground for the aux socket  :)

As to your nav/maxidot issue, I think you need to install a 5J0035751. Probably easiest to make your own loom from a quadlock extension as the wiring looks simple.

If it were only that simple! I wouldn't have a clue where to start ...

A quick scan of the Fabia/Roomster pages shows that this loom would sell well, there are many who would love to fit Amundsen/Columbus units to older cars but want better integration than is available at the moment ...  anyone that CAN make such a loom in UK would certainly cover their costs.

There are canbus adaptors on the German eBay pages but at between a reasonable £57 and totally outrageous Kufatec at £250 (!) however I just don't trust Google Translate enough to take the plunge.

For the 5J0035751, I would:

- grab something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111956982067

- splice cables into power and ground

- cut the CAN-bus cables and extend if needed

- take those 6 wires and attach to the 5J0035751 as shown on the top of it

Completely reversible and I believe should give you the best chance. Might be worth asking your local dealer how much a 5J0035751 is as I've not seen them online.

The £60 CAN-bus adaptors probably aren't what you need. Typically they just provide a switched ignition/illumination feed for aftermarket headunits, this is because they aren't included on the quadlock.

There is a £200 Kufatec thing https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/Volkswagen/Touareg-7L/CAN-Bus-Interface-VW-RNS-510/MFD3-CAN-TP-1.6-w/TV-Free2?action_ms=1 but I've no idea if it's suitable for your Roomster.

I'd definitely be aiming for the 5J0035751  as it's listed as being correct for a 2007 Roomster here http://www.oemepc.com/tvn_result/search/tvn/5J0035751

If you can find one, myself of Eddie-NL might be able to help with a loom.

Thanks for the update.

I've heard mixed reports of the Kufatec part on other forums (early Touraeg has canbus 1.6 too), and it's bloody expensive - I share your doubts about the other versions available.

There is a fair bit on the Russian and Polish Skoda forums about the 5J0 part you mention - I'll speak to my dealer and will probably take you up on your offer of a loom as this stuff is way off my reservation.

Just found this on fleabay - would this be a suitable item to modify?

Not sure, its connector doesn't look right in the image.

The extra taps make it slightly easier to use but I wouldn't say it's worth more than double the money of the one I posted.

Edit:

Even cheaper: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262084304076

The 5J0 module will be the expensive part ;)
