Octavia II 1.9 Tdi 6 speed DSG Elegance stuck in Park

Featured Replies

I only have the car a couple of months

I was initially a bit worried about the complexity but my bro in law is a Audi VW Skoda specialist and promised me that it is a great model with a serviceable gearbox

I've been a mechanic for 35 years and have worked for Scania commercial, Renault and BMW motorcycles as a mechanic/Technician so I'm familiar with all sorts of mechanical things

So to the problem:- Midweek out of the blue I parked up and returned to the car after maybe 50 minutes and out the key in as normal and waited for glowplug light and started as normal

Then when I pushed the brake pedal and reached for the gear lever it wouldn't move

It was then I noticed that the P was flashing at the gear lever and that the green footbrake light on the dash wasn't on

After fiddling for a while with locking and unlocking the car and trying with combinations of lights and foot brake and handbrake application the green brake dash light came on and the gear lever moved as it normally should

It's just done it again nothing seems to be curing it but I can see brake lights on and off on the hedge behind

Also it came up with emissions error DTC0600 which cleared with my code reader and has only reappeared with this episode of stuck gearlever

I may have a solution .....

The fusebox / relay box on the NS front has water in a lot of connections

a neighbour alerted me to the cooling fans running and I went out for a look see

I took the cover off the box beside the electronics box beside the battery and spotted many fuses and indents full of water

Fingers crossed and I will keep you guys and gals informed if its a winner

If you have a fuse / relay box just beside the battery in the engine bay that the lid is not properly seated water seems to get in

and cause various shorts

So far after 3 days all seems good after trailing out the battery and fusebox top section and clicking out the big connectors below and turning them upside down and letting them sit for a half an hour like that to drain and then using the dreaded WD40 ( i don;t like it as a rule)

I got about an Eggcup of water out of them

I hope this helps someone else out somewhere along the way The first symptom seems to be the fans coming on at irregular times
