1.9 pd 105 (BXE) 6 speed gearbox upgrade.

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 1.9 PD105 BXE octavia estate.

Love this car and had it over 6 years covered over 100000 miles in it.

BUT I've always thought it should have been fitted wth a 6 speed box.

I recently had it mapped upto 140bhp and now I feel that a longer ratio 6 speed box would really improve the drive , performance and economy of the car.

I have a pd130 fabia vrs and the 6 speed box on this is spot on.

Does anyone know which 6 speed boxes I could fit straight onto my octavia bxe lump with no modifications.

And one with suitable ratios for a 1.9 pd running 140 bhp?

Thqnks Dan.

I can't answer your question but can't help feeling it would be easier to upgrade to a car already fitted with the 2.0 litre six speed PD140?

Although with the trusty 1.9 PD105 I understand why for reliability reasons you'd want to stick with it!

Thanks.

I love my 1.9 pd.

They are the best engines from Vag.

I am going to invest some money on the octavia and upgrade turbo, injectors ect ect hope to be running around 220 bhp.

But I want to get a suitable gearbox and sort the brakes and suspension first.

Hi,

I converted a Golf tdi from a 5 speed to a six  speed some years back. From what i remember i changed:

Gearbox

Fly wheel

Clutch complete

Both driveshafts

Hubs/discs/calipers (different)

Modified the clutch pipework to clear the battery tray

I did not change the gear cables or lever assembly. I just fitted the gear knob from the six speed. If i recall correctly i think i had to use the ball joints from the six speed cables as these were different. Very heavy box and expensive to convert. Find a damaged vehicle with all the bits to make it cost effective.

Hope this helps

I remember seeing something about a company that would design a 6th gear for 5 speed gearbox on here a few years ago. That could also be something to consider. I would like to add a 6th gear at some point in the future myself, so would be interested in seeing what you end up doing. Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sounds like it will be too much work to bother with!

I will just have to keep my speed down a bit

Higher engine RPM will keep your combustion chambers comparatively clean.

Drive fast, keep on top of oil changes and enjoy peak performance.

There's not a massive difference in final drive ratios.

It seems as above that there is the possibility of adding a 6th gear to your existing gearbox as the housing was set up for 6 speed but only 5 were installed:
