Haldex not working, pump replaced but not solved

Featured Replies

Hi,

A week ago I noticed that the front wheels were spinning on a gravel incline. No aid from the back wheels at all. Car delivered to Skoda workshop and the fault was identified to be the electromotor for the Haldex pump. Pump was replaced today but problem is not solved. Message sent to Skoda factory today. Workshop awaiting reply from factory for further investigation or what to do. Has anyone else had a similar problem with Haldex 5?

Just out of curiosity, how are you testing this?

The workshop got the same error code after replacement as before replacement. They also tested the 4x4 on the road. Front wheels spinning. The workshop does not know what to do as replacement of motor/pump had no effect on problem. Workshop awaiting answer from factory.

Then its most likely to be a sensing issue that determines when the rear kicks in.

Agreed; based on my understanding of how Haldex works I'd be looking for fault codes relating to the ABS sensors.

My thoughts also. I mentioned this for the workshop, but they said there were not any fault codes for the ABS. I still have not got any further information from the workshop. They will call me when they have got information from the factory on how to proceed.

I've seen a few of these threads in the Octavia and Yeti forums over the years.

I wonder how many 4x4's are out there with defective Haldex systems and their owners are non the wiser?

I'd have hoped the fault codes for the Haldex 5 would have improved. On the Gen 2 the Haldex could stop working without any fault codes been logged.

Did they turn it on during PDI, i.e. take that part of the cars brain out of transportation mode? It wouldn't be a first and they might not even think to check that part during fault finding. Ask, there may be some red faces and an apology in the somewhere.

4x4 has been working up to recently, so not a PDI issue.

Today another new pump was installed. 4x4 now working successfully. The first replacement pump had a fault it seems. I do have missed the 4x4. Happy driver yet again
